In 1995 'Arbeitsgemeinschaft Nahverkehr Dortmund' (AND, Dortmund Public Transport Workshop) was founded. It is a private club that emerged from its predecessors 'Arbeitskreis Dortmunder Straßenbahn' (ADS, Dortmund Tramway Workgroup, founded 1977) and 'Nahverkehrsfreunde Dortmund' (NFD, Dortmund Public Transport Friends, founded 1989).
The idea of working on the field of public transit from a cultural, historical, and technical perspective culminated in the acquisition of a couple of rare historical buses.
AND contributed to the 1995 jubilee of '100 years of motor buses' in Siegen county (Southern Westphalia), where world's first motor bus line was established in 1895. AND buses could be found at many public events in the context of municipal transit. 2005 marks our participation at "100 years" anniversary of the Trier's municipal bus operator, where one of our two Henschels — together with its twin that is being preserved in Trier — ran on an extra route, giving passengers the 1960s bus ride feeling. Recently, AND ran a feeder line in Dortmund with five of its buses for the municipal services operator DSW21 on the occasion of their 150th anniversary festivities in Brünninghausen bus garage.
AND has contacts to numerous domestic and foreign clubs and associations that share the same interests. AND is member of 'Arbeitsgemeinschaft Historischer Nahverkehr' that in turn has member associations throughout Europe. We were proud to organize the 2004 AHN congress.
AND e.V. as a non-profit-making organization is recognized by the tax authority as being "of benefit to the public".
